Garage sale season is fading away, but if
you're like us, the junk in your house is still there. This is a
just a reminder that WoodlandParkLife.com has a free classifieds
section that we'd love to see people take advantage of. There's
even a special category for items that are being given away for
free. Our inspiration comes from Craigslist and Freecycle; while
those are great websites we thought a locally-oriented service
might be of interest to residents. We've made it easy for you to
upload a few pictures of the item(s) for sale, and it's likewise
easy to go back in and edit your ad (once you're logged in to
WoodlandParkLife.com using your regular username and password).
Well it's not a big surprise as Java the
Hut has been for sale for some time, but...they're now officially
closed. A sign in the door says they're out hiking, and another
sign on the door advertises that the "Sweet Tea Country Cafe and
Coffee Bar" will be opening next week. Also coming soon is an
old-fashioned soda fountain.
So, what's going on this Halloween in
Woodland Park? If you know of any community activities, post a
comment here with details! So far, we've seen a billboard at the
Woodland Park Community Church advertising an activty there,
there's the special event at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife
Center, and we hear rumors of something for kids going on at the
Gold Hill shopping center. Does anyone know any details?
The Rockies sold a measly five hundred
tickets today before an 'external mlicious attack' (more concise
details are currently unavailable) knocked out the website that was
the sole way of buying tickets for games 3-5 of the World Series
against the Red Sox. They now belive they've fixed things and can
avoid a similar incident, so will start selling the remaining 58k
tickets (approximately 18k per game are available) Tuesday at noon.
See the Rockies' website for buying info.
It's always nice to see local businesses
doing well; the latest story comes via an article in the Gazette about Snow
Performance. You've undoubtedly seen their gigantic black
pickup trucks around town, they're tough to miss with their jacked
up appearance and abundant logos (at least one of them is wearing
some tires with a really funky tread pattern, take a closer look if
you get the chance). If you're like me though, you probably
didn't know what they sell, or thought they sold snowmobile
accessories. Turns out the company name comes from its owner, Matt
Snow. Snow Performance sells a water/methanol injection kit for
automobiles that helps lower the temperature of the air being
sucked in by the engine. This has a couple of advantages, the first
is that with lower temperatures comes high density and thus more
oxygen (and therefore more power). The second is more applicable to
forced induction cars (those with turbochargers or superchargers),
where, if modified to run at higher boost levels, knocking or
pre-ignition can occur. Lowering the intake air temperature helps
prevent that, which can either provide a nice safety buffer, or
allow you to run higher boost (and given the choice, I imagine that
most would choose the later).
