Spruce Grove is a nice little campsite that's not too far from Woodland Park. Most campsites are in a large meadow area which is, frankly, unimpressive and the reason for the poor privacy ranking in this review (they're along a single loop and have little shade). However, there are several walk-in campsites that are fantastic. I think there were two on the near side of the river, and the rest on the far side. If you're lucky to get one of the sites on the far side of the river, you'll enjoy great privacy in a wonderful wooded setting with giant boulders.

The campground is first-come, first-served, so don't even try to come here during the summer unless you're arriving early on Friday (and preferably Thursday afternoon instead). There's some good hiking nearby, the Lost Creek Wilderness is close, and right around the campground itself are two good hikes. The first is an easy trail up the giant rock formation overshadowing the campground. The second trail begins behind the walk-in campsites and takes you for a nice loop through the forest. The river is good for tubing and fishing. Drinking water is available via a hand-operated pump.Directions:From Florissant, CO, take US Rt. 24 west 5.6 miles to Tarryall sign (County Rt. 77). Turn right at sign onto Rt. 77 and go 13.7 miles to a tent symbol sign. Turn right onto a dirt road into campground.Open May 13 through October 10; $9 per day.

The walk in sites are great, the others are mediocre.
