Political protests are nothing new, and certainly one would expect there to be plenty of this at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver late this month (link). Already, protesters' activities have been restricted to a chain-link corral. Now channel 4 news has learned about even more restrictive plans in place. Apparently, the police expect there to be enough protestors worthy of arrest during the convention to justify the construction of a vast series of chain link cages, topped by barbed wire, inside a warehouse to act as holding cells. It sounded pretty incredulous at first, but they managed to get a reporter and their camera into the facility before being kicked out. Click the 'more' link below to check out the video for yourself.

Now that the public has found out what the Denver police are doing about this facility, the police have taken steps to make this a little more humanitarian...namely, getting rid of the razor wire atop the cages and instead installing chain link fence roofs. They've also described its purpose a little more, saying no one will be sleeping there, it's just a processing facility.

Given the potential for outright chaos at the convention do you think they had any choice other than to build a facility like this? I agree that the public has a right to know what its government by the people for the people is doing and am pleased to see them open up about this to the media. But even if people have to sleep there, if they've punched their own rowdy ticket do you really feel sorry for them?

I guess I just have a hard time envisioning there being so many protestors worthy of arrest.

You wait brother. But the protests should be much larger at the GOP convention in Minnesota.

So far pretty mellow. I heard 141 arrested as of last night. Lots of talk and little action. But then again I would think most of the action would be at the GOP convention anyway. They're the real object of most protesters - environmental, anti-war, human rights, gay rights, etc. I hear from a friend that's been filming in Denver that mostly what they're seeing are the "anarchists" who are there because they think everyone in the 2 party system is corrupt (and they'll be in Minnesota too). But apparently even that message is being drowned out by the thugs who think anarchy is about chaos, and just seem to want to start fights.
