Contaminated Well Water in Alpine Village
Friday, 10 July 2009 09:03
Residents of the Alpine Village Mobile Home Park received some disturbing news, that their well water was contaminated with radium, increasing the potential for various cancers with long term exposure to drinking that water.  A woman quoted in the article here didn't want her name used in the article, out of concerns about the management.  Of course, the article goes on to state how she's lived there since 1995 and is married - I imagine the management could pretty quickly figure out who she is!  Speaking of the management, they say that the water is safe to drink, despite state testing showing that the water isn't safe to drink and despite a state enforcement order requiring Alpine Village to fix the problem.  I can understand the woman's concern about the management, if they have that sort of head in the sand attitude!

McAfee Estate faces foreclosure
Friday, 08 May 2009 07:48
The 280 acre, multi million dollar McAfee mansion near Woodland Park is joining the ranks of foreclosed homes!  Read the Gazette for more details.  What cost around $25 million to build is likely to be a real bargain for whoever bids on it in the June 3rd auction...the current owner paid $5.72 million, of which $3.2 million is still owed to the bank.

WP Comprehensive Plan Workshop #1
Tuesday, 05 May 2009 21:13
Tonight's Comprehensive Plan meeting went well, with the 110 or so attendees being broken up into tables of 8 for discussion and brainstorming.  The results were a bit surprising, with most people wanting to see more chain restaurants in town, like more Starbucks, Chilis, etc, and also more cookie-cutter housing developments.  Just kidding, just kidding.  Actually, people were fairly unified in their distaste of the current highway 24 configuration (mainly complaints over it being not pedestrian-friendly).  Focus on outdoor activities and community building opportunities were also voiced quite a bit, and there seemed to be quite a bit of support for a rec center, affordable housing, and a community college.  This is a continuing process, so it's not too late to get involved.  Keep an eye on WPCompPlan.org for more information, surveys, meeting times, etc.  You'll soon be able to view a recording of the meeting at TellerNetcast.com.
