Woodland Park and the environment - a period of transition?
Monday, 27 April 2009 08:02
Woodland Park is a great town, but seems a bit confused when it comes to the environment lately.  A free recycling center has just opened up in the Wal-Mart parking lot, where residents can drop off most mixed recyclables - glass, cans, etc (no cardboard).  The Courier has more on that story (thanks, Teller County Waste, for donating that!!!).  Around the same time as that, incumbent IREA board member Sperry defeated challenger Galvin.  The IREA is notorious for its head-in-the-sand attitude towards global warming, alternative energy, and support for new coal power production. Hopefully the recycling center is more indicative of the future of our community than the Comanche coal-powered power plant the IREA helped build near Pueblo.

IREA Annual Meeting
Tuesday, 07 April 2009 12:26
On Saturday, April 18th, residents will have a rare opportunity to speak to the IREA board of directors, at the IREA annual meeting here in Woodland Park at the Ute Pass Cultural Center.  With the IREA's investment in coal power plants, denial of global warming, and aversion to renewable energy sources, there's growing dissent and this meeting could be the subject of some heated debate.  Check out IREA Voices or CRES for more.  The meeting starts at 10:00 AM, but we're told you need to be there by 9:00 AM if you wish to register to speak.
