Yesterday I participated in an autocross put on by the local SCCA. The event was held at the World Arena, and was part of their laid-back ‘winter series’. This meant there were only around 120 drivers, and we all had five runs as a result. The type of cars varied, and included go-karts, Subarus, Hondas, a very modified VW Scirocco, and of course the Vettes and Elises that made up the SuperStock class I was in. It was fun, though I wasn’t able to get close to the class-leading Lotus Elise with the street tires I was using (they had near-slicks on their car). What a great way to spend the day, though. The drive back was enjoyable as well, coming up the pass with the top off and winding through light traffic. My fun was tempered by the two police encountered on the drive; one was a motorcycle cop writing someone a ticket, the other was a car heading down the pass.

I was told the next autocross event was April 15th, though their calendar shows May 26th? Once I get that sorted out I’ll post the latest here.
