WP Saddle Club moving to Divide PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 07 April 2009 08:20
The Woodland Park Saddle Club is relocating to a 35 acre parcel in Divide.  It was originally going to rebuild along hwy 24 near WalMart after the city purchased its original location to covert into Woodland Station (someday!).  Exactly why they're choosing Divide instead isn't entirely clear, but it does seem to be pretty much a done deal.  There will be a Divide Chamber of Commerce meeting on 4/8 at 6:00PM at Killday's Deli in Divide to discuss the plans.  It's a small Deli (with great food!), so either they're not expecting a lot of people to show up, or those who don't show up early will be standing.  I(via Activerain)

I'll believe it when I see it - they've been talking about this for nearly as long as I've been here. What it came down to was once the city did the land swap with the Saddle Club, and Walmart came in the club figured it could make a killing by selling their land in town, then relocate to a large parcel in the county and still have big dollars in the account to spare. Over the years I've heard stories of 35 acre parcels, of 80 acre parcels, relocation plans to the north of WP, relocation plans in Divide. Problem is a developer bought that trailer park by Walmart hoping to combine it with the SC property and get a Lowes in there, but Lowes found the parcel to be too narrow and long and walked (they're supposedly building at 21st and Hwy 24 in the Springs). Since then Walmart hasn't sold a single parcel of the 8 they have available & unless something has changed very recently the SC property is still on the market too. So I have no idea what money they're moving with.

That's a good point, have they sold their WP land...? If not, how will they pay for not only the new property, but all the construction and development as well? This isn't a good economic climate to be seeking large loans, I'd think.
