Most kinds of household hazardous waste can be recycled for free at the El Paso county facility on the east side of Colorado Springs.  It's a bit of a drive, but is worth it!  See the website for more information.

Among the items accepted at this facility are batteries, CFL bulbs, motor oil, paint, etc.  About the only things not accepted are asbestos and tires.
